Brief Description |
Currently in Utah there are several formal collection options, all of which collect controlled substances:
1. At permanent bins located in lobbies of law enforcement agencies
2. At one-time “Drive-up Drop-Off” Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet community medication take-back events where law enforcement officers are present
3. At household hazardous waste collection events where law enforcement officers are present
4. Senior housing special collection events sponsored by local law enforcement agencies
Currently there are 54 permanent medication take-back bins in 14 counties in Utah. More sites are being added with assistance of grant funding.

Program Results and Evaluations |
In April and May of 2010, DEQ sponsored 10 “Drive-up Drop-Off” Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet community medication take-back events throughout the state of Utah. 2,095 lbs. of medication were collected, 340 of which were controlled substance, and 670 surveys were completed by those that dropped off medication.
